We Havent Heard

The President of the NEA says that No Child Left Behind works.  He is amazed that it works, but admits it works.  Did you know?  It is truly amazing that people are surprised it works.  Let's see, if I want to teach a dog a trick, I have to actually "teach" the trick.  Making teachers teach, even if it is to a test, gets children to learn new things.  The thought that it would not work was truly unbelievable.  Teachers being forced to teach actual reading, writing, and arithmetic, instead of "how to live your life better" improved the students reading, writing, and arithmetic.  I remember, years ago, people talking about teaching Ebonics (Urban Ethnic Lang) instead of English.  It was insanity like that, the insanity of teaching the "pop culture" subjects, instead of teaching the neccesary subjects that have caused so many problems in our country.  To complain about people not reading enough and not teach them English seems a little disingenuous to me.

To Start with

As a father of 8, what I know is:  Life happens fast, but not so fast as you cant do anything about it.

You need to take a look at things happenning around you and in the past and make your decisions from those facts.  The education system and society at large has failed the family and the youth of America.  Two students recently died at a local college.  Both instances involved alcohol.  When will we learn?  When will we accept the responsibility of raising people to be responsible adults, instead of raising them to be "themselves".  From a Judeo Christian perspective, that is nuts!  We are all born sinners, we all have come short of the glory of God.  Will we really find the path to responsibility on our own?  Of course not.  From a non Christian perspective, are you nuts?  You give a bunch of kids their first oppurtunity to abuse alcohol with absolutely no supervision, expectations, or understanding of the consequences and then are surprised when someone dies.  WOW, never saw that coming.  The push to make everyone "find themselves" is a push to the destruction of or society and our youth.  Just like the failed policies of the educational system of the '70's (single open classrooms, self paced initiatives, etc.), this to is destroying a generation of young people.
